𧐐翅目目

𫌀翅目物种见于南、北半球，不过两者的数量差异颇大：尽管演化方面的证据显示某些物种在地理上被孤立之前，曾经跨越赤道多次。𫌀翅目物种未有在南极洲被发现。

所有物种均无法忍受水污染，而且对水质变化敏感，所以其出现于水体（无论是溪流还是静止水域）均标示当地水质良好或优质。

短尾石蝇科（叉𫌀科；Nemouridae Newman, 1853）：包括超过700个物种；

背石蝇科（背𫌀科；Notonemouridae）

新系统分类

现时这些昆虫被简单分为两个分类单元：南翅亚目（Antarctoperlaria，即再早期分类的古𫌀翅亚目，Archiperlaria）及北翅亚目（Arctoperlaria）两大类。然而，前者只简单包括两个属于基群的总科，而这两个总科似乎并没有任何紧密关系，因此被认为不是一个自然的分类单元。

北翅亚目可再分为两个下目，即：

Euholognatha或Filipalpia（原来的丝翅亚目）；以及

Systellognatha、Setipalpia或Subulipalpia。

除却Scopuridae应被包括在北翅亚目的基群科，但未能安排到任何一个下目之外，其余分类单元均与系统发生树相对应。

Alternatively, the Scopuridae were placed in an unranked 演化支 "Holognatha" together with the Euholognatha (meaning roughly "advanced Holognatha"), but the Scopuridae do not appear significantly closer to the Euholognatha than to the Systellognatha.

In addition, not adopting the clades Antarctoperlaria and Holognatha allows for a systematic layout of the Plecoptera that adequately reproduces phylogeny, while retaining the traditional 分类阶元.

此外，无论是新分类还是旧分类，均未包括只有化石种的分类，例如：近卷𫌀科（Mesoleuctridae）。
